The Beer:30 Live Show!
In 2006, Jamie Whitley, Mary Bradbury Jones, and I got together and launched the “Tuesday, Noon” podcast. At the time, it was a way for us to experiment with podcasting as a way to reach out into our audience, then the students and faculty at University of Phoenix. We started at the Oregon campus — where we were all three located — recording out of my office every Tuesday at … yeah… noon.
Turns out, we managed to learn some interesting things about ourselves and our guests in the process. First, it was a lot of fun, learning as much as we did about the process of recording a weekly show. Second, the people we interviewed, they gave us a fascinating gift as they sat down with us: a glimpse into this other side of their lives not often seen in the classroom.
University of Phoenix was served with a letter that had the legal people on the phone with me after about six months of shows. The call was short: stop recording because some freeloading patent troll said they had the rights to distributing media on the Internet. As insane as it sounded, we were no longer to podcast under the umbrella of University of Phoenix.
But we loved the work and kept it up. We changed the name of the show to Beer:30 Live! and moved it to a local bar, adding Shane Corsetti to the mix of hosts. The show changed, as did our guests, and we moved on from the University of Phoenix food chain.
The show had run its course after another year or so and we all eventually drifted in new directions making it increasingly complicated to keep up a recording schedule between us. I tried to keep the show alive with new voices. Something about it didn’t take with any of us. After nearly three years of diligent work on the show, it finally went dormant.
We’ve talked about bringing back the show, about heading back to the bar and getting the old gang back together. Maybe, someday. For now, all the old shows are here. We’ll keep the feed up and you can still subscribe to the show to download the whole archive in the iTunes Store here. As ever, thanks for listening.
